What Because
What Because. More than just hand-woven rugs, this company brings passion for people, for the ancient art of weaving that laid down the foundation for movement forward to care for ourselves. For women who bring forth the ancient tradition of weaving, using what the Earth provided to gather food, create shelter, and live. Founder and weaver behind What Because, Lenna Petersen, took the technology of weaving, combined with the power of women and their innovations, and developed “a connection with all of the women who labored before” her. Her hand-woven rugs provide you with the art of a beautiful rug while connecting you to the ancient wisdom behind the power that collides when you connect women and nature.
What Because uses textile industry waste or post-consumer textile waste along with reclaimed cotton to create thoughtful and intentional rugs. Five percent of all proceeds go toward Trans Women of Color Collective.
