Berea College
Berea College, established in 1885, was the first non-segregated, coeducational college in the South. Their mission is to provide tuition-free education to anyone interested in what they offer. They are inclusive and do not discriminate against gender, ethnicity, or income level. The school sits deep within the Appalachian culture in Kentucky and provides strong academics alongside a work-study program. Their motto remains “God has made of one blood all the people of the earth.”
The history of Berea is one we celebrate. They bring diversity of thought and culture while maintaining the region’s craft heritage. They are strong advocates for design, art, and craft and look to bring that value to all who are interested. For those who are not looking for an education, but value what they provide, you can visit their store and shop for items made by individual students. The heart and soul of each student makes up a large part of the item bridging part of their story to align with yours.
