Mater

Mater aims to redefine lighting and furniture sustainably without compromising design and aesthetics. As they create new pieces, they focus on using sustainably or ethically sourced materials and working with designers who promote the same level of interest in protecting our planet while bringing in the highest level of design and quality. Their working methods are aimed at supporting people, local craft traditions, the environment and incredible design quality.

Mater uses industrial plastic waste and discarded fishing nets to create new product lines. They’ve used car parts, bikes, furniture, ocean plastics, mango trees, coffee shell wastes, spent grain waste, FSC certified wood including up-cycled mango wood and aluminum. They’ve signed on to the UNC Global Compact focusing on ethical treatment of all people. This is an exciting company to watch as they innovate and partner to find new ways to utilize by-products from other industries and turn them into breathtaking pieces.
